Why it matters

A reply turns a critic
into a fan

Users who get a reply to their app store review are significantly more likely to update their rating. A thoughtful response to a 1-star review can turn it into a 4-star update — and that reply is public, so every potential user sees it too.

  • Users who get a reply are more likely to update their rating
  • Public replies show other users you care
  • Apple and Google surface apps that engage with reviewers
  • A thoughtful reply to a 1-star review can become a 4-star update

"Workout timer keeps resetting when I switch apps. Completely unusable during my gym sessions. Deleting this."

Hi! This is fixed in v3.2.1 — the timer now runs in a background audio session so it won't reset. Please try updating. If it still happens, reach out via our feedback form and we'll debug it with you.

"Updated to 4 stars — the timer fix works perfectly now. Appreciate the fast response. Would be 5 stars with Apple Watch support."

"The calorie tracking is off by a lot. Logged a banana at 200 calories — it should be about 105. Makes the whole nutrition section unreliable."

Your reply
Hi! Thanks for pointing this out — you're right, the USDA database entry for bananas was mapped incorrectly. We've pushed a fix in v3.2.2 (rolling out now) that corrects this and 12 other food items. Appreciate the detailed report.

How to write a great
review response

Replying to app reviews is not just about damage control. A well-crafted response to an app store review builds trust with every user who reads it — not just the reviewer. Here's how to write one that works.

  1. Start with gratitude — even for negative reviews. "Thanks for taking the time to write this" sets the tone.
  2. Acknowledge the specific issue they mentioned. Repeat it back so they know you actually read the review.
  3. Explain what you're doing about it — or what you already fixed. Vague promises don't work; version numbers do.
  4. Invite them to try again or reach out via your feedback form for direct conversation.
  5. Keep it concise — users skim, not read. Two to three sentences is the sweet spot for both App Store and Google Play.

"Export to PDF doesn't include charts. I need this for client reports. Without it, I have to screenshot everything manually."

Your reply
Thanks Sarah! Chart export is landing in v4.1 next week. We'll include all chart types in PDF and PNG. Appreciate the feedback.

Common questions

Everything about replying to app store reviews. Can't find an answer?

Get in touch
Can I reply to App Store reviews from AppTriage?
Yes. Write your reply in AppTriage and it posts directly to the App Store via the App Store Connect API. Your response appears publicly under the review, just as if you'd written it in App Store Connect. Available on Pro and Business plans.
Can I reply to Google Play reviews?
Yes. Same workflow — reply from your inbox, response posts to Google Play via the API. The character limit is 350 for Google Play vs 5,970 for App Store. Both platforms are managed from the same inbox.
Is replying to reviews free?
Store review replies require a Pro ($19/mo) or Business ($49/mo) plan. The free plan includes everything else — importing reviews, tagging, status workflow, AI categorization, and email replies to feedback form submissions. Store replies are a Pro feature because they use the App Store Connect and Google Play APIs.
What happens if a reply fails?
AppTriage tracks reply status for every response. If posting fails — API error, expired credentials, rate limit — you'll see a "Failed" status with the specific error message. You can fix the issue and retry from the same screen without re-typing your reply.
Can I also reply to feedback form submissions?
Yes. For feedback form submissions where users shared their email, you can send a direct email reply from the same inbox. This works on all plans including Free. So you have two reply channels: store replies for reviews, email replies for form submissions.
Do I need App Store Connect credentials?
Yes. To reply to App Store reviews, you need an API Key, Issuer ID, and Private Key from App Store Connect. For Google Play, you need a Service Account with reply permissions. Setup takes about 5 minutes per platform — we have step-by-step guides in the app settings.
